CHE University Ranking: BCi in top tier!
In May 2019 the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) published their university ranking for Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. This appeared in the study guide of the German newspaper “Die Zeit”. With over 150,000 students surveyed from more than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences, this ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed university comparison in the German-speaking countries.
Students and professors gave an excellent rating for both the BCi Bachelor and Master's programme. The BCi Bachelor programme was at the top field based on its practical orientation, while the Master's programme received top marks in the field of international orientation. FH-Prof. Dr. Robert Pichler, MBA, head of the BCi programme added: "Practical orientation and its application in an international context characterise our BCi degree programmes. The skills that our graduates develop in the course of their training have been highly valued by companies for years. "
MBCi Study Trip to Hong Kong 2019
"The trip to Hong Kong was truly a wonderful experience! We enjoyed every part of it, including our visits to companies, sightseeing, trying out new cuisines and of course shopping! There was so much to do that we were scratching our heads in the beginning about where to start to get most out of this trip.
Hong Kong is one of the busiest and most developed metropolitan hubs to multinational companies. During this trip, we visited a few of these companies to understand more about the business environment in Hong Kong. Companies we visited were Modern Terminals Limited, Fimmick, Fiducia, Red Bull Hong Kong, Deutsche Lufthansa, Gebrüder Weiss, and Advantage Austria. We had a chance to visit the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and had a tour of their Exhibition Area. The one thing we liked the most about the company presentations was that they not only talked about their business activities in Hong Kong but also about China and Hong Kong in general, and what the economy will look like in the near future. We also visited one of the partner universities of FHWN, Shue Yan University. Lastly, in our final company visit, we were lucky enough to meet and talk directly to the general manager of Greater China Red Bull.
But that's not all, the study trip also included leisure time activities and provided us with the opportunity to experience the culture and explore the city. Every day we tried something new and visited many tourists’ attractions such as the Victoria Peak, Symphony of lights (light and music show), Big Buddha Statue, Disneyland and some of the group members even visited Shenzhen, Mainland China. The Star Ferry across to Hong Kong island and the cable car ride to Big Buddha Statue was indeed a very unique experience and something we will never forget. Overall, the trip was very enjoyable, and we all had a good time there. Through this trip, we received many valuable insights and it helped us to develop professionally as well as personally. We are very grateful to the BCi Programme of the Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt for organizing this wonderful study trip."

L’Oréal Brandstorm 2019
On 4 April, 2019, L’Oréal Austria hosted the national finals of the famous L’Oréal Brandstorm competition. A team of 3 MBCi students from the Marketing Analytics specialisation went to represent our university and competed against 6 other Austrian universities.
The team consisting of Andjela Arsenkovski, Lenka Vuksanovic, Luka Mladenovic, had won the campus finals last semester and were awarded the chance to go to the next round at the national level. Students had the challenging task of inventing a skincare experience for health-conscious consumers of the future. The ideas had to be disrupting, innovative, and leverage digital solutions and connected technologies. The team did a great job, and although they did not win, it was a great experience for everyone involved and we were very proud of them.

On 3 March, participants enjoyed a high-quality keynote by Josephine Ioana Karner from T-Systems Austria on „Smart Cities: Between Social Needs and Technology“ at the kick-off of this year´s Talking Digital open lecture series „Digitalization for Sustainability!?“ Thanks to everyone for the interesting and fruitful discussions!
The next open lecture „Blockchain & the SDGs“ takes place on April 25 with a keynote by Martin Wildenberg & Valentin from the WU Vienna.

Treasury Management System & Supply Chain Finance at LUKOIL
On 21 March, Mag. Evgeny Chaynikov, CFA head of the Supply Chain Finance program at LUKOIL, one of the world’s largest companies, addressed the main features of the LUKOIL treasury strategy, highlighting the current development and the shift towards a centralized treasury management system. The open lecture also included a case study regarding the recently introduced program of supply chain finance.
BCi Career Day 2019
This year the fifth BCi Career Day took place on 7 March 2019. We invited BCi Alumni and other business experts to talk about their professional experiences and success stories. This annual event aims to help BCi students to find out which career opportunities they can have after graduation. In their presentations the speakers shared information about their former career steps, responsibilities of their current position, and about the various skills required to excel in the certain business area. Treasury and Investment Students – Austrian Champions in Equity Research
On Friday, 1st March a team of students from the Treasury and Investment specialisation in the English master programme Business Consultancy International won the Austrian final of the CFA Research Challenge. They will be representing Austria in the EMEA final that will be held in Zurich in April.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual, global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Students work in teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company and then write a research report on their assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation. This year in the Austrian final the students’ task was to analyse S IMMO AG.
The winning team from FHWN are: Marlene Eibensteiner, Moritz Elser, Florian Kargl, Shahar Kenan and Nora Nagy. They have been guided by an industry mentor, Harald Egger, CFA and a faculty advisor, Dr. Kinga Niemczak.
The competition from other universities was very strong. Our students had to demonstrate not only profound knowledge of equity valuation tools and excellent financial analysis skills, but also exceptional presentation skills as they had to pitch their recommendation in front of a panel of judges - professionals from the investment industry. This achievement was only possible thanks to their rigorous preparation, professionalism and excellent collaboration within the team.

Marketing Analytics students support Vienna museums
As part of their Consumer Insights course, students of the Master programme Business Consultancy International (specialisation: Marketing Analytics ) implemented a marketing project for the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK).
On the basis of empirical market research, the students developed recommendations and ideas for the museums in order to increase brand awareness among tourists and the local population. The scientific support from the students included qualitative interviews and focus groups. "The practical projects allowed our students to gain valuable insights into the multifaceted world of cultural marketing and further strengthened their market research and consulting skills. " explained Dr. Karin Dobernig, research assistant in the Department of Marketing & Sales.
The questions the students worked with were diverse: What do people associate with the term MAK / Museum of Applied Arts? What are the main reasons to visit a museum? Why do foreign tourists visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum? The project was a great challenge for the students. "The course provides a great opportunity to understand the complexity of customer behavior and apply multi-dimensional insights into a user-centered design process for real customers. It was a challenging, but interesting and rewarding experience, " said student My Tran Thai.
The students received support and intensive coaching from user experience design expert Markus Murtinger (USECON) and design thinking specialist Stephanie Ogulin (ambuzzador).
Marketing students as Web Consultants
On December 7th, 17 MBCi students of the specialisation Marketing Analytics presented their ideas on website optimization to the Performance Online Marketing Agency edialog and Doctors Without Borders. As part of their course Special Topics in Marketing Analytics 2, students slipped into the shoes of web consultants an gained exciting insights into the world of data-driven marketing. Within the scope of the course students had the chance to work with a real client of edialog, the non-profit organisation Doctors Without Borders.
In order to come up with highly relevant optimization ideas, students had the opportunity to analyse website data via Google Analytics. Besides quantitative analysis, students also collected data via usability research methods such as Eye Tracking and Think-Aloud-Method. Based on their in-depth analysis, they were able to give highly relevant recommendations for website optimization and A/B testing. The jury consisting of Ms. Andrea Buhl (Head of Digital Communications Unit, Doctors Without Borders), Mr. Rukamp (Senior Consultant Digital Analytics at edialog), Mr. Heimhilcher (Senior Consultant Conversion-Optimierung & E-Mail Marketing at edialog) and Tatjana Steinwandter (Academic Lecturer and Course Leader) were impressed by the outcome. One team stood out especially through their top performance: Daria Akoshali, Lisa Schilcher and Anna Martynova were announced the winning team and won tickets for the Google Analytics Conference 2019. Congratulations – well done!
BCi Students participate in ‘The BCi Henkel Challenge’
On December 6th, students specialising in International Marketing and Sales, participated in a competition hosted by Henkel – The BCi Henkel Challenge. As part of their Strategic Brand Management course, students had the opportunity to work on a real project for Henkel – one of the leading FMCG players in Europe. Student groups developed their strategic ideas for Bref toilet bowl cleaner, and were hosted at the Henkel Headquarters in Vienna for the final challenge presentation and an exciting visiting tour of the production plant. A panel of judges, including Henkel Recruitment Partner & Employer Branding Specialist - Astrid Reitbauer - as well as many senior brand and marketing managers, critiqued the students and selected a winner. Congratulations to the winning team: Melanie Hense, Tina Koglbauer, Bavi Jot Singh Sandhu, Julia Schantl and Anna-Lena Schimek. The experience proved invaluable for students wishing to further their chances for an internship, or to secure entry level position upon graduation.
Visit to Drake University
In the middle of November, Virginia Grögl, BCi Programme Associate, together with colleagues from the General Health Care & Nursing programme travelled to the US to participate in the “International Education Week” of our long-term partner university Drake University in Iowa. Together with other participants of Drake’s worldwide partner university network, they were able to convince themselves of the international orientation and the global commitment of our partner university. The purpose was to deepen our engagement with the university, discover synergies in our programmes, and ultimately look to further faculty and student exchanges. Drake University is an excellent fit for the FHWN in terms of university size, personalised teaching methods and many parallel study programmes. The Global Engagement Office at Drake organised an amazing week, with a full programme meetings and presentations, including an evening at a local brewery selling 150 beers – many locally made. Their Midwest hospitality was amazing, and in the end the week was very fruitful in terms of making key contacts for future international activities.
University Affiliation Program of the CFA Institute
Treasury and Investment curriculum is closely linked to professional practice and covers the majority of the CFA elements. Hence, it is well-suited for preparing the students to sit the CFA examinations successfully. With this accreditation, the FH Wiener Neustadt now has the possibility to award several scholarships to current MBCi Treasury and Investment students in order to partially cover their CFA exam fees.

FHWN at the China Education Expo in Shanghai & Hong Kong
At the end of October, Austrian higher education institutions had the opportunity to present their programs in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The program was organized by “Advantage Austria”, the Austrian Trade Commission in Hong Kong with the goal to present Austria as a top address in higher education. FH Wiener Neustadt was also represented by the Program Director of Business Consultancy International, Dr. Robert Pichler. Besides high-school and university visits, the representatives attended “China Education Expo (CEE)”, one of the most important educational fairs China. Besides having attractive options in education, Austria also presented itself as top destination in tourism and hospitality: On October 26, the Austrian Consulate General hosted a big Austrian National Day Reception in Shanghai, giving every guest the opportunity to meet representatives of Business, Politics and the Diplomatic Corps. We are optimistic that this participation will lead to a great number of applications from both Hong Kong and mainland China!

Simon-Kucher & Partners Presentation
Each year BCi hosts company presentations from various industries. This time we invited someone from the field of Consultancy – the main profile of the BCi programme. On 10 October Simon-Kucher & Partners a leading consultancy firm hold an engaging session with the topic “Curious about Consultancy?” where students got to know more about the company’s profile, strategy, and recruiting process. Consultants, Mr. David Lielacher and Mr. Simon Grabbe showed project examples from the real business world and shared interesting facts about consultancy life.
Procter & Gamble Presentation
On 13 September the world`` s largest consumer goods company Procter & Gamble visited our campus to hold a presentation about P&G and to promote their internship and job openings. We had the chance to welcome two company representatives, Key Account Manager Ms. Cha Moun Zinssmeister, and Finance Manager, Ms. Martina Reisch, who informed us about their positions and introduced the P&G CEO Challenge to our students.
BCi Opening Event 2018
In the beginning of each academic year, BCi organises an Opening Event for the first semester students. This year the get-together took place on Friday, 31 August with students from more than 30 different countries. The highlight of the Opening Event is the Parade of Nations, where students introduce their countries to colleagues and share interesting facts about their backgrounds. Besides presenting, we encouraged them to wear their national costumes for the occasion. As the pictures show, many of our students and even faculty members took the chance and dressed up in their national dress for the event.
